Hungry Hill is the title of a novel by Daphne du Maurier based on the story of the family of her friend, Christopher Puxley, whose family acquired Dunboy Castle and its lands after the defeat of Donal Cam O'Sullivan Beare. The copper mines located on the hill in the novel are in reality further west near Allihies. Hungry Hill' is a passionate story told with du Maurier's unique gift for drama. It follows five generations of an Irish family and the copper mine on Hungry Hill to which their fortunes and fates are so closely bound.
Hungry Hill also lacks political sophistication at times: The English family makes fatal political gaffes, like drinking with militiamen of the Black and Tans at the height of the liberation war, that people who had been raised in that conflict would have been careful to avoid. But Flynn hasn't told his girl that he is planning an illegal rave. Cherry tree farm has a secret and DC Grace Buchanan has been drafted in to prevent more bloodshed. Gory tale set in Suffolk.
